TCA HIGHWAY ANGEL TOM ZACHOWICZ NAMED A ‘GUARDIAN ANGEL’ BY MOTORIST

Alexandria, Virginia
Tom Zachowicz, a professional truck driver for Leonard’s Transportation, Inc., of Farmington, New York, has been named a Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) Highway Angel.
On September 4, 2010, at a service area near Lake Station, Indiana, Zachowicz came across a woman and her 14-year old daughter who had just experienced a flat tire. It was raining, and both the woman and the daughter were scared, not knowing what to do next or who to call for help. Zachowicz asked if he could help, and then fixed the tire quickly and professionally, despite the rain.
The woman later wrote a letter to Leonard’s Transportation in which she said she had been on the verge of tears before Zachowicz arrived to help. “My mother always said we have guardian angels, but I never thought mine was a big guy that drove a huge truck,” she wrote. “Please tell [him] thank you for me and that I pray that God rides with him each and every mile he drives.”
For his willingness to assist his fellow drivers, TCA has presented Zachowicz with a certificate, patch, lapel pin, and truck decals. His employer has also received a certificate acknowledging their driver as a Highway Angel.
Since the program’s inception in August 1997, hundreds of drivers have been recognized as Highway Angels for the exemplary kindness, courtesy, and courage they have displayed while on the job.
