The Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) is pleased to name Bob Kelley of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, as its latest Highway Angel. Kelley, who drives for ABF Freight System, Inc., of Fort Smith, Arkansas, is being recognized for helping to put out a car fire.

On June 6, 2014, Kelley had just eaten lunch at a fast food restaurant in Longs, South Carolina, when he overheard a flustered woman telling someone that she thought her car was on fire. He asked if he could help and went to examine the vehicle. The hood was open, with smoke billowing out. He used the fire extinguisher from his truck to smother the flames.

After a minute or so, they flared up again, so again he smothered the flames. He continued in this pattern several times. Finally, someone from the restaurant came out with a five-gallon bucket of water and was able to douse the flames for good. However, Kelley’s willingness to help, when he certainly did not have to, was duly noted and is much appreciated.

As a TCA Highway Angel, Kelley has been presented with a certificate, patch, and lapel pin. ABF Freight System, Inc. also received a certificate acknowledging that one of its drivers is a Highway Angel.
