TCA SALUTES HIGHWAY ANGEL MARK KEARNS FOR HELPING FELLOW TRUCK DRIVER ESCAPE DANGEROUS SITUATION

The Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) has named Mark Kearns of Levittown, Pennsylvania, as a Highway Angel. Kearns, a professional truck driver for Swift Transportation of Jonestown, Pennsylvania, is being recognized for helping a fellow truck driver escape from a dangerous situation.

On October 16, 2014, Kearns had just crossed over into Pennsylvania from New Jersey when he noticed that traffic had begun to slow down. It turned out that a truck had jackknifed and was dangling over the Neshaminy Creek in Bensalem, Pennsylvania. He drove past the accident, pulled over, and began pushing debris out of the way on his way back to the scene.

When he got to the cab, he found the driver trapped because the driver’s door was hanging over the creek and the passenger door was against the trailer. Kearns got a tool from his own truck and smashed out the window on the back side of the cab. With the help of two other motorists, he was able to assist the driver in climbing out of the vehicle. He made sure that the driver had plenty of assistance from others before continuing on his way to make his delivery.
