Trucker Named TCA Highway Angel for Helping Injured Driver in Early Morning Crash
February 18th, 2025
ALEXANDRIA, VA—The Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) has named truck driver Donovan Collins, from Deport, TX, a TCA Highway Angel for stopping to help during an early morning crash and administering CPR. Collins drives for Dedicated Transportation Solutions out of Greenville, SC.
It’s an incredible story: On Feb. 11, 2025 around 4:30 a.m. in Dallas, TX, Collins was driving on I-30 in the rain. He encountered an overturned vehicle in the middle of the lane—completely dark, with no lights on.
“I saw him about 30 yards out,” said Collins. “I barely scraped past him.”
Without hesitation, he immediately activated his hazards, safely parked his vehicle, and called 911. Collins ran to the wrecked car.
“I ran over with a flashlight to see who was in the car,” he said. “A guy was just lying there, not moving.”
A Navy veteran, Collins pulled the driver to safety, removing him from harm’s way as he spoke to the 911 operator. He then performed CPR on the crash victim until emergency responders arrived.
“I stopped because I know what it’s like to be in an accident and have no one stop to help,” said Collins, who himself has been in accidents where no one stopped to render aid. “Everyone else was driving by like they didn’t have a care in the world.”
Since the TCA Highway Angel program’s inception in August 1997, nearly 1,500 professional truck drivers have been recognized as TCA Highway Angels for exemplary kindness, courtesy, and courage displayed while on the job. Thanks to the program’s presenting sponsor, EpicVue, and supporting sponsors, DriverFacts and Northland Insurance, TCA is able to showcase outstanding drivers like Collins.
