The Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) is pleased to name its latest Highway Angel: Jason Levreault of Gimli, Manitoba.  Levreault, a professional truck driver for Bison Transport of Winnipeg, Manitoba, is being recognized for helping a fellow professional driver after he witnessed a serious accident.

In the cold, early morning hours on February 17, 2015, Levreault was heading east of Whitewood, SK, when he saw a cloud of dust in front of him. He realized that something bad had just happened and immediately pulled over. He discovered that a tractor trailer had hit another tractor trailer that was parked on the side of the highway and had come to rest across the median.

Thinking quickly, Levreault sprung into action. First, he called 911. Then, he checked on the first driver, who seemed fine.  He ran to the other tractor trailer and saw that its engine was separated from the cab and had significant damage.

“I yelled to see if everyone was okay and was relieved when I heard the driver yell back,” Levreault said. The driver was conscious, but had cuts on his head and hands.  “I told the driver that help was on the way, and I started delegating jobs to keep everyone else who was involved busy so they wouldn’t think about what had just happened.” Lereault stayed with the injured driver until help arrived.

Due to the cold temperatures that early morning, Levreault ended up with frostbite on his right hand after touching the truck while helping the injured driver.  He credits the training he received from a previous first aid class and an airport security job for helping him to think and act quickly.

For helping at the scene of the accident, TCA has presented Levreault with a certificate, patch, lapel pin, and truck decal. Bison Transport also received a certificate acknowledging that one of its drivers is a Highway Angel.
