Truckload Carriers Association Honors

Owen Lewis as TCA Highway Angel

November 21st, 2025

The Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) is proud to recognize Owen Lewis, a professional truck driver for Sharp Transportation Inc., as its newest TCA Highway Angel for his courageous and compassionate actions after witnessing a serious vehicle crash on Interstate 80 in Iowa.

On the morning of November 9, 2025, at approximately 6:00 a.m., Lewis was traveling westbound on I-80 near Harlan, Iowa, when he saw a car traveling eastbound lose control and crash.

“I thought, ‘Okay, let’s make sure everything is okay,” he said, and he pulled over. “When I got there, the car was about 100 feet or so off the side of the highway down in an irrigation ditch.”

Upon approaching the wreck, Lewis found a young woman—identified as Cora, walking up the side of the hill. Uninjured but cold, the woman called 911, then her parents, then went and sat in Lewis’ truck to stay warm.  Telling him she had fallen asleep at the wheel, the two sat inside the truck together until the Iowa State Patrol arrived.

In a message to Lewis’ employer, the family expressed deep gratitude:

“We are very grateful for his kindness and how he kept her safe and warm until the state trooper got to the scene. Owen is a model employee who your company is lucky to have on board. We appreciate what he did for our daughter yesterday!” — Emily Truitt and Toby Knoop

For his part, Lewis says “I’ve always felt like if something happens, I need to stop and make sure everything is okay.”

Since the TCA Highway Angel program’s inception in August 1997, nearly 1,500 professional truck drivers have been recognized as TCA Highway Angels for exemplary kindness, courtesy, and courage displayed while on the job. Thanks to the program’s presenting sponsor, EpicVue, and supporting sponsors, DriverFacts and Northland Insurance, TCA is able to showcase outstanding drivers like Lewis.
