Ricky Howe of Cold Spring, Kentucky, a professional truck driver for Pegasus Transportation, Inc., of Louisville, Kentucky, is the Truckload Carriers Association’s (TCA) latest Highway Angel.

On the afternoon of July 17, 2013, Howe and his fellow team driver (no longer with the company) were driving along I-96 westbound near Grand Rapids, Michigan. There was a lot of construction going on, and traffic was bottlenecked to just one lane. The drivers noticed that a family of four had pulled off the road and appeared to have an oil leak that was on fire. The men got a fire extinguisher and helped put out the flames.

“They didn’t even realize that their SUV was on fire until my partner rolled down his window to let them know,” said Howe. “They’re lucky that we were there.”

TCA has presented Howe with a Highway Angel lapel pin, certificate, and patch. The organization also gave Pegasus Transportation, Inc., a certificate acknowledging that one of its drivers is a Highway Angel.

Since the program’s inception in August 1997, hundreds of drivers have been recognized as Highway Angels for the exemplary kindness, courtesy, and courage they have displayed while on the job.
